The Elizabeth line is set to offer commuters from Reading a more direct journey to central London starting early next month (6/11).

Monday (24/10) marked the opening of the lines West End location at Bond Street which means the completion of the final station on the line.

With the completion of this station comes the connection of the line from the east to the west next month.

This also includes stations at Heathrow and Shenfield connecting to the central London section of the new railway.

Andy Byford, London's Transport Commissioner, said: "I am also pleased that through journeys from the east and west into central London are now less than two weeks away.  

“It has been a huge privilege to have served as the Transport Commissioner for this incredible city. I am proud to have worked alongside a great team to get this station open and complete the railway. 

The Bond Street station has been said to be the jewel in the crown of the now completed line.

Completion of connections will transform transport across London and the South East meaning that the journey to central London from Reading will take 30 minutes in total.

From November 6 when the Reading station officially connects, trains service is said to increase to three to four minutes at peak times.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “The opening of the Elizabeth line by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Paddington in May was a landmark moment, not just for London but for the entire country.

It is playing a crucial role in our recovery from the pandemic and delivering a £42 billion boost to the UK economy, supporting hundreds of thousands of new homes and jobs.
