Reading manager Paul Ince has laid out his long term vision for the club, including having uniformity throughout the age groups.

With injured first team players nearing a return, the likes of Yakou Meite and Andy Carroll played 75 minutes in the Under-21s 2-1 win over Millwall on Monday.

Managed by Royals legend Noel Hunt, his side are battling in the Professional Development League after the Academy's demotion from Category One to Category Two.

Only taking charge on an interim basis in February, and a full-time basis in the summer, Ince wants sides of all age groups to play a similar style.

Speaking to the media ahead of the clash with Huddersfield Town, he said: "It’s Noel Hunt’s team and he plays it as he sees it. Eventually, I want everyone to play the same way- from top to bottom. Whether it’s three at the back or 433. We can still be flexible in that, but I want us all to play the same way so if I need a right sided centre-half I can go to the U23s, and he knows he can play there. That’s far down the line but that’s how I look at it."

Harking back to his football education, coming up through the West Ham United Academy, the England legend insists playing with experienced professionals such as Carroll and Bouzanis will improve the youth stars.

"It’s great because the kids get to play with Andy Carroll and Yakou Meite or Ovie. Years ago, playing in the reserves and Combination League people from the first team would come down who were injured, and you’d play with Billy Bonds or Alvin Martin or against the opposition and that was great experience for us. you don’t get that so much, so for the kids to play alongside someone as good as Andy Carroll is great for them."
