Former Reading and Leeds defender Dylan Kerr has revealed that he has applied for the managerial vacancies at Rotherham United and Burton Albion.

The full-back spent 20 years playing across the top four divisions in England and a successful spell in the Scottish Premiership before retiring and moving into coaching.

In a mixed week, the Yorkshireman was inducted into the Royal Hall of Fame for his spell in Berkshire, but also lost his job as manager of Moroka Swallows in the top flight of South African football.

Taking charge of clubs across the world, including Vietnam and Tanzania, the 55-year-old has seen great success in South Africa,

He has been appointed manager of four clubs in the relegation zone, and kept all four up with less than 12 matches to go.

He also lead previous club TTM to their first piece of silverware, the Nedbank Cup, in 2021.

Speaking exclusively to the Reading Chronicle on his difficulties securing management roles in the UK, he said: "I applied for the Rotherham job, and the Burton Albion job. I’ve not heard anything. I do apply for things in England. I was always seen as this crazy, energetic, idiot footballer with the people in charge of coaching education. They didn’t think I’d ever make a coach, but then again nobody thought I’d ever make a footballer."

Rotherham United are still without a manager after long-serving Paul Warne left to join League One Derby County.

Chelsea and Leeds United legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink resigned with the Brewers after a poor start to the season, with assistant coach Dino Maamria currently in interim charge.
