Reading striker Deanne Rose will be missing for an 'extended period of time' after suffering an Achilles injury in the Royals' opening day 4-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Withdrawn after just 20 minutes at the Leigh Valley Sports Village, the Canada international will now be unavailable for Kelly Chambers for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to the club website, the striker said: "I really don’t have many words to describe the disappointment that I’m feeling. However, I have the determination, faith and a mindset to come back stronger both mentally and physically.

"It has meant a lot to see all of your messages of support, loving prayers and positivity as I now begin my road to returning.”

The 23-year-old arrived in England last year after impressing with Florida Gators, netting five goals in her debut campaign.

First capped for her country aged 16, she has already racked up more than 70 appearances for her country- winning a gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games.
