Reading boss Paul Ince has called on his players to be more ruthless after the international break.

Full of praise after his side's hard-fought 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Saturday, it could have been a more comfortable scoreline in Lancashire had his stars finished their chances.

Jeff Hendrick saw an effort fly over the bar from close-range in the first half at 0-0, while scorer Tom Ince could have grabbed a brace with a second half header and Yakou Meite saw Ben Amos repel his shot despite the Ivorian being set one-v-one against the keeper.

Charlie Wyke and Callum Lang had guilt-edged chances in the latter stages of the game but were unable to punish the Royals, much to Ince's relief.

Speaking to the media after the game, he said: "The disappointing thing for me is that we should’ve been two or three up. We’ve got to kill games.

"In the last couple of minutes, Lang should score, Charlie Wyke heads one over the bar, and you’re coming in after the game thinking how have we lost it?

"Tom should’ve scored his second with a header- he’s not been the greatest header of the ball at any stage, but he’s got to score from four or five yards, my daughter would’ve scored that. Yaks got to score to make it 3-0 and that’s game dead.

Reading Chronicle:

"What happens is we get deeper and deeper; Wigan like to go back to front quick and they had two good chances where they could’ve got something out of the game. That should never happen. We aren’t ruthless enough when we get chances up top."
