Reading Women are to open their WSL account with a trip to giants Manchester United on Saturday, facing the Red Devils along with their record crowd at Leigh Sports Village.

Enjoying a successful campaign, narrowly missing out on the Champions League qualification last campaign, along with the increase in interest following the Lionesses European Championship win, more than 6,500 season tickets have been sold.

Kelly Chambers' Royals were supposed to open their season at home to Liverpool last weekend, in front of what would have been a club record crowd with 500 plus season tickets sold.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, United boss Marc Skinner said: "[It will be] amazing, and at Leigh, our fans are loud anyway. So, whether there's 200 for [an] away fixture, they're super loud. So, to have 6,000 already, and who knows that might grow, it's going to be fantastic."

Royals boss Kelly Chambers added: "We’re excited to get going. Everyone is raring to go, we’re bored of pre-season now and want to get going.

“Going to Man United will always be a tough fixture but it’s one we’ve prepared well and the squad I’ve brought in this year can really step forward and push."
