Reading forward Andy Carroll admitted he was 'glad to be back' after signing a four month contract with the Royals.

The former England international put pen to paper on a short-term deal until mid-January yesterday, playing up to 19 matches potentially.

Premier League regular with the likes of West Ham and Liverpool, the 33-year-old scored twice in eight appearances for the club last season in another short-term spell.

Speaking to the club on his return, he said: "It's very good, I'm glad to be back in the building. It's a great feeling. I loved it the first time, I loved walking back in the building and driving down here, it's a brilliant place and half of the lads are still here as are all of the staff. It's a brilliant place to be and I'm delighted to sign back here.

"I worked hard and gave everything I had when I was here, and I will this time as well. The fans were absolutely fantastic with me. The first time I was here I had a fantastic time, the lads were brilliant, some great memories at the stadium and the training ground. Celebrations, disallowed goals, it had a lot going on."

The first opportunity for the striker to plaky will be in Lancashire against Wigan Athletic tomorrow, with the experienced goal getter looking to make an impact straight away.

"That's what I've been wanting to do, I've  been working outside the club and get myself to as high as I can without being in the team and come straight in so I can fit in with the lads. Monday morning I came in and trained, I've trained all week and hopefully I can be involved on the weekend," he underlined.
