Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray admitted that he felt Reading were beatable, and underlined this by cruising to a 3-0 victory in Berkshire.

The Royals were one of two clubs with a 100 per cent home record heading into the clash with the Black Cats, and they could've risen to second in the Championship with a victory.

However, two quickfire first half goals and a third in the second half sealed a miserable evening in RG2 for those in blue and white.

Despite a previously pefect record at the SCL Stadium, new Sunderland boss Mowbray admitted post-game that they felt it was a winnable tie.

Reading Chronicle:

Speaking to the media after the match, the former Middlesbrough favourite said: "Despite their home record, which I believe was unblemished this season, we looked at them, we had a few days to work with them, and we believed that if everybody did the basics well we could win tonight.

"It was good to score three goals. It's amazing to see how many people travelled from Sunderland on a Wednesday night - it's incredible really, but it doesn't surprise me as a football club, because it is a massive beast and we need to keep trying to feed it."

The North-East giants have now risen into the top six after nine matches of their return to the second tier after League One exile.

More than 2,000 Wearsiders made the journey south and were handsomely rewarded with their biggest win of the season to date.
