Reading will face a new manager against Huddersfield Town next month after the Terriers sacked Danny Schofield.

In charge for less than 70 days, the former midfielder took over after Carlos Corberan walked away from the club over the summer.

Beaten play-off finalists last season, the Yorkshire outfit sit in the bottom three with just one win and one draw in the opening nine fixtures.

The final straw was a 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic, the Royals' opponents on Saturday.

Huddersfield make the trip to Berkshire immediately after the international break and could have a new permanent boss in place by the time they face Paul Ince's men at the SCL Stadium.

A club statement read: "The decision was made after Tuesday evening’s Sky Bet Championship defeat at home to Wigan Athletic, which took our competitive record during Danny’s time as permanent Head Coach to one win and one draw in nine competitive matches.

"Narcís Pèlach and Paul Harsley will take temporary charge and lead the team into Saturday’s league game at home to Cardiff City.

"Everyone at the Club would like to thank Danny for his hard work and dedication and wishes him the very best for the future."
