Reading could not have to play FA Cup replays this season in a bid to reduce the fixture congestion, reports claim.

According to Daily Mail, it is one of a number of considerations being taken regarding the fixture backlog caused by the World Cup break this winter and the postponement of matches in the aftermath of Her Majesty, Elizabeth II's passing.

The Royals' trip to Watford on Saturday has been moved to Tuesday, November 8 in a mark of respect to the Queen, however matches resume in midweek and next weekend before an international break.

After the break, starting with a home test to Huddersfield Town, Paul Ince's men face 10 matches in 43 days before the beginning of the World Cup in Qatar.

The FA Cup third round, scheduled for the weekend of January 7/8, comes less than a month a fter the restart having already played five matches.

Speaking on fixture congestion regularly, Ince has slammed the organisation of the league.

Ahead of the 1-0 win over Millwall last month, he said: "Talking to the media before a trip to the Den to face Millwall, Ince vented: "It's tough, we’ve got such a small squad at the moment. It's six games in two weeks, it's actually unfair. The EFL have crammed in so many games, probably because of the World Cup. It's the same for every team in the Championship, but some have a squad of 25. But for us we’re relying on more or less the same players."
