Reading FC boss 'doesn't give a monkeys' at missing out on award

With four wins in six matches had lifted the Royals to the summit ahead of a heavy 4-0 defeat to Sheffield United- who leap-frogged Reading to top spot and saw manager Paul Heckingbottom pick up the prize at Ince's expense.

Still sat in the play-off positions as the season nears the 10 match mark, Ince 'couldn't give a monkeys' that he missed out, an award not won by a Reading boss for over two years.

Speaking after finding out the outcome, he exclaimed: "I don’t give a monkeys to be fair. It doesn’t mean anything because ultimately, it’s down to how the players are doing. They’re the ones running on the pitch and working their socks off week in and week out.

"It’s always nice to be recognised for what you’re doing. If you’re just missing out on Manager of the Year, it’s a different kettle of fish as we’ve achieved what we want to achieve but Manager of the Month is no big deal."

Heckingbottom, who had previously been in charge of Barnsley and Leeds United, said: "August has been tough with seven league games and a cup fixture, but we have made an encouraging start thanks to the hard work and commitment of everyone associated with the club.

“There’s been some challenges, but it has been a team effort, including players, staff and supporters and hopefully we can build on it in the coming months.”

Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley won the equivalent award for League One, as did Richie Wellens in League Two.
