Reading Women will travel to Manchester United for the opening game of the Women's Super League (WSL).

Originally due to host Liverpool in front of a record attendance on Sunday, all football was postponed following the sad passing of Her Majesty, Elizabeth II on Thursday afternoon.

More than 500 season tickets have been sold any many more were due to welcome the Royals after women's football had piqued the interest of the country with England winning the European Championships in the summer.

The FA announced in a statement today that football will restart this coming weekend, although it is rumoured that fixtures in the capital are at risk due to lack of available policing, with The Queen's funeral on Monday, September 19.

In a statement, the FA said: "All matches held at stadiums are subject to leagues and clubs working with the relevant authorities to stage these fixtures, as usual practice.

"We will be recommending to clubs, leagues and competitions across the country that a minute's silence is observed before matches are played, and that black armbands should be worn where possible."

Marc Skinner's Red Devils will host Kelly Chambers' side at the Leigh Sports Village on Saturday lunchtime, with Paul Ince's team in Greater Manchester against Wigan Athletic at 3pm.

The date of the Liverpool match has not yet been decided, with Reading not at the SCL Stadium now until October 2 against Tottenham Hotspur.
