Reading boss Paul Ince candidly opened up on the role as a manager or coach, explaining that man management is the 'hardest' aspect of taking over a club.

The former England captain took charge of the Royals full-time in the summer after a stint as caretaker at the back end of last season.

Before that he had taken eight years out of management, with the likes of Macclesfield Town, MK Dons and Blackburn Rovers under his stewardship in the 2000s.

Having worked under the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Glenn Hoddle and Terry Venables- the 54-year-old had plenty of role models to take parts from.

Opening up ahead of the game that never was against Watford, he explained the different aspects of the job and roles he undertakes.

"When you mention the word coach, it seems strange to me because those great managers you mention, the [Arsene] Wenger’s and Sir Alex [Ferguson]’s they were managers- they weren’t coaching.

Sir Alex never coached a lot, he would look out of his window onto the pitch and make sure everyone was in shape and order. He only came into his own on a Saturday or watching games.

"Sometimes we get too wrapped up in this coach, coach, coach; you have to man-manage players and that’s the hardest thing for me as a manager, managing players. Not the ones who are playing week in and week out, but the ones who aren’t playing.

"Everyone has a certain style of playing but to get everyone on board you need to have relationships with them. We haven’t got the best team in the world, but you can achieve so much by having the culture you create and the environment you create. Not just the players, everyone. I found coaching pretty easy because it’s quite basic but man managing up and below is tough."
