A new Mexican takeaway could be opening up in Reading town centre according to plans.

The Australian Mexican takeaway chain Zambrero has submitted an application to take over the old William Hill betting store at 31 Queen Victoria Street.

Zambrero has become known globally for its burritos, nachos, tacos, quesadillas and lunch bowls.

In order for it to come to Reading, Zambrero has submitted a plan for substantial changes to the interior of the building, and new branding on the outside.

The plan shows  nine seats indoors and four seats outdoors, with the necessary cooking facilities and counter where customers can pick up their meals.

It would be sandwiched in between Itsu and Kokoro, two sushi diner and takeaways.

Zambrero started off in Australia in 2012, and is now a  global chain, with locations in England, the USA, New Zealand and Ireland.

It has franchise takeaways in London and Chelmsford, Ohio, Kentucky and North Carolina, 12 locations in Ireland and 13 in New Zealand.

Zambrero has been contacted for information about its planned opening date in Reading and how many people it aims to employ.
