A sushi restaurant in Reading town centre has won the right to sell beers, spirits and wines to diners.

The Intoku Japanese & sushi restaurant opened its third branch in Chain Street at the end of May, and can now sell a range of alcohol.

Drinks menu items include Asahi, Kirin and Sapparo beers, Italian red, white and rose wines, Italian and French sparkling wine and spirits.

Intoku also serves up an exciting range of 11 ‘artisan’ cocktails.

The alcohol sales have been allowed after a successful licensing application to Reading Borough Council.

It means staff can serve alcohol from 12pm to 11.30pm Monday to Sunday.

Although the permission allows sales until 11.30pm, the restaurant currently closes at 10pm each night according to its website.

As for soft drinks, Intoku sells bubble tea, traditional tea, ‘artisan coffee’, regular cold drinks and six mocktails.

Intoku is a small chain which has two other locations in Chelsea and Windsor.

The chain, which is owned by Greg and Mia Lumakin, actually had its genesis in Manchester in 2019.

The ‘our story’ section of its website states: “With the success of Intoku growing, Mia and Greg decided to close their Manchester branch and open two new locations in London and Windsor in 2020, bringing their passion for Japanese food to hungry new customers.

“And the Intoku legacy continues to grow.”
