A FRESH appeal for witnesses has been launched by Thames Valley Police after a van crash in which a 19 year old died in Tilehurst.

Sheldon Lewcock was riding an electronic bike on Pierces Hill when he was involved in collision with a van.

The crash happened approximately 6pm on Thursday, August 4, and the teenager sadly passed away in hospital on August 9.

Thames Valley Police have said the crash has been linked to an assault on two teenage girls in Southcote.

It was originally reported by the force that the assault, in Southcote, happened prior to the fatal crash. The force has today said it is now believes the assualt happened afterwards.

Thames Valley Police said following the collision, at 6:10pm two teenage girls were assaulted by a male in Coronation Square, Southcote, where one of whom suffered serious injuries.

Senior Investigating Officer, Investigations Lead Richard Thorpe, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Lewcock’s family, who continue to be supported by Family Liaison Officers throughout the investigation.

“Due to our enquiries we have now established that the incident of grievous bodily harm occurred after the road traffic collision, in which Sheldon Lewcock sadly died, and not before as previously believed.

“Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit continue to investigate this incident and the actions taken by the driver of the van.

“We are appealing to any witnesses, who were in the Pierce’s Hill, Overdown Road and Dark Lane areas of Tilehurst, or anyone who may have information about this incident, to please come forward.

“If you have any CCTV footage or any dash-cam footage if you were in the area around the time, I’d also ask that you check any recordings in case it has captured something that could assist our investigation.

As part of the investigation, a 17-year-old, from Reading, was arrested and charged on suspicion of attempted murder which has since been filed as no further action.

An 18-year-old, from Reading, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has been released with no further action.

A-20-year-old, from Reading, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has been released with no further action.

A 38-year-old man, from Reading, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released with no further action.

Kayden Williams, aged 18, of Don Close, in Tilehurst, remains charged with Section 20 GBH and assault by beating in relation to the incident in Coronation Square on Thursday (4/8).
