A Tyrese Fornah long-range strike, twinned with some backs-to-the-wall defending, saw Reading dig-in and beat Middlesbrough 1-0.

Here is every word from Royals boss Paul Ince.

Paul Ince on the match

The boys were unbelievable. I'm happy with the performance. It was a different type of performance from wednesday. Today was back to the walls stuff. I half expected it because they put in such a shift on Wednesday and we’re talking about the same 12 players. It’s not like Boro who can bring five subs on to make an impact, they’ve spent a lot of money. I knew after 65 or 70 we would be dead on our feet.  It was more about sticking together, unity spirit, people making blocks. Thomas making a tackle in the 92nd minute, Clarky making a block when you’re thinking ‘here we go, we’re going to throw it away’. That's what it takes and shows the spirit we have. The fans were amazing. Wednesday was amazing but I think today was even better because of the circumstances because we were out on our feet. I'm proud of the way we managed to go from Wednesday to a totally different performance today.

Paul Ince on Tyrese Fornah

I'm always on Ty’s (Tyrese Fornah’s) case because I know when I was a 22-year-old midfielder that people were on to me like Mark Hughes, Bryan Robson. I know he can be a top player and the last two games he has been absolutely outstanding .It wasn't just about his goal. He's growing and maturing and that's what you want. He's maturing each game and you can forget he's never played at this level. He was brilliant with his passing and composure and he finished it off with a goal. I don’t like to single people out but I'm going to single people out because he was immense.

Paul Ince on Dean Bouzanis

Dean Bozuanis came in after Wednesday with a clean sheet from Joe and as a goalkeeper. When I made my debut from west ham against Chelsea, the night before so many things were going through my head. About whether you're going to score, if you’re going to have a good game. As a goalkeeper it's even worse. It was the perfect storm for Dean Bouzanis. He made punches, important saves, his kicking was very good and he got a clean sheet.

Junior and Yids were sensational. I watched Middlesbrough play all this week and all their footage was about the wingbacks, Jones and Giles, all their goals come from those areas. I said to the guys if you can get on these two, don’t let them cross, you’ll win the game. Him and Yids kept them very quiet. You ask players to do things for a tactical reason but for them to go and execute it is not always easy. Today they were immense, they didn’t cause us many problems. It was only at the end when they were hitting long balls into the box in desperation to get the equaliser. At times it can fall to one, but we got that little bit of luck, and we came away with the result.

Paul Ince on penalty shout

I don’t have a clue. I didn’t see what happened, I don’t know if Tom Holmes pulled him? I didn’t see it enough. I just though oh wow, not just for me but for the players and the shift they put in. To concede a decision like that you would’ve felt for them. There is a god after all.
