A fundraiser has raised more than £1,300 in the memory of Sheldon Lewcock, who died following a collision with a van in Reading.

The 19-year-old was in Pierces Hill on August 4 when the incident occurred, passing away five days later in John Radcliffe Hospital.

His family’s lives have been “shattered” by his death and his mother, Angela, must now cover the costs of his funeral, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser.

In a statement on the page, Sheldon’s cousin, Maxene Harpa, wrote: “As a family, we are devastated by this loss.

“We are incredibly close and share each other's pain. Sheldon did not deserve this; everyone that knew him is heartbroken.”

“Many people have been incredibly kind and have asked how they can help.

“Nothing can bring Sheldon back and our lives will forever be shattered by what has happened; however, donations big or small would be massively appreciated to relieve some of her stress during this upsetting time.

“The money would go towards the cost of the funeral and also for Angela to move forward with her beautiful young children who depend on her.”

Police launched a murder investigation after Sheldon’s death which came to an end yesterday (August 17).

An attempted murder charge was dropped and three arrested men were released without charge.

Coroners opened an inquest into Sheldon’s death and a post-mortem was conducted but no proposed cause of death has yet been given.

Following his passing, his mother issued a tribute to his ‘pure heart and smile.’

His case has been passed to the Joint Operations Roads Policing Serious Collision Investigation Unit ‘for an investigation into the circumstances,’ a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said.
