Two former Reading teammates clashed in Sky Bet League Two on Tuesday, resulting in a red card.

Full-back Chris Gunter, who played over 300 times between 2012 and 2020 joined AFC Wimbledon this summer following his departure from Charlton Athletic.

Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Quinn, who spent an injury-hit spell with the Royals from 2015 until 2018, is with losing play-off side Mansfield Town.

When both met in midweek, tempers flared as the highest capped Welsh international was  brought down by Quinn for a foul.

The right-back jumped straight up after the ball had been kicked at his head, reacting angrily and pushing Quinn to the ground.

Gunter received a straight red and will miss the next three matches for the Dons.

A stalwart in Berkshire, he never once saw a straight red, although did get two bookings and sent off against Nottingham Forest in 2013.

Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson, when asked to discuss the incident, said: "It doesn't sit well with me to be honest. My player is on the floor having made a good tackle, he gets the ball kicked in his face, it's a natural reaction to get up. I don't think there's anything too malicious in the action, just a coming together.
