A cat has been rescued from a burning building after emergency services descended on a house in Reading.

Officers from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue team received reports of the fire on Russel Street at 5:04pm on Wednesday, August 10.

The street was cordoned off by police while firefighters extinguished the blaze and clearing the smoke from the domestic property.

A spokesperson from Royal Berkshire fire and Rescue said: “Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Bracknell and Maidenhead fire stations were sent to the scene, alongside one RBFRS Officer and supported by crews from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“Upon arrival, crews found a fire in the basement of a three-storey building.

“Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel and one main jet to extinguish the fire, before using a high powered fan to clear the remaining smoke. Firefighters also rescued a cat from the property.

“Crews were on the scene for three hours and 40 minutes.”
