Reading scorer Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan described his debut goal as 'the best feeling around' despite the disappointing defeat.

Falling behind to Stevenage on his first start for the club, his second half strike levelled the scores, only for Danny Rose to break hearts and net in the last minute to knock Reading out of the Carabao Cup.

Coming on as a sub on Saturday and a regular on the bench under Paul Ince, it was the 19-year-old's first start since joining the club as an eight year old 11 years ago.

Speaking to the media after the game, he said: "It was amazing, the best feeling around. I really enjoyed it. It was a great ball from Mamadi which made it easy for me. it was heart-breaking in the end to lose it to a cheap goal after all the work we put in, but we have to pick ourselves up and go again.

"I’m enjoying the opportunity to impress; hope they keep coming and I can keep taking them. I just have to stay ready. The opportunity has come quicker than I thought with our injuries but when you stay ready that’s what can happen. It means a lot and has been a long time coming."

One of eight changes to the side that beat the Bluebirds in the Championship, Ehibhatiomhan was playing alongside many stars from the youth team and fabled Academy.

Assisted by midfielder Mamadi Camara, the striker said it was an emotional moment to celebrate with his long-standing teammates.

"We have the connection from playing in the Under-21 so as soon as he gets the ball on the half turn, I know where I need to be. When we all celebrated together in the corner with the fans it was emotional, it was amazing."
