Senegalese talent Amadou Salif Mbengue is on trial with Reading, according to reports.

The 20-year-old had spent his whole career with French side Metz, making 12 appearances in Ligue 1 before his release at the end of the season.

Primarily a midfielder, he can also play in a more defensive role in the back line, positions that manager Paul Ince has outlined as requiring improvement in the past.

Compatriot Naby Sarr is expected to be announced in the coming week while midfielder Mamadou Loum arrived this month on loan from Porto, bolstering what is an injury-hit squad.

Football Insider report that Mbengue has arrived in the town and is looking to impress ahead of a potential move.

Currently the club can only sign free agents or loan players due to their EFL transfer embargo for breaching profit and sustainability regulations.

Nine players have already arrived this summer, with the former England captain still after more to bulk out a relatively thin group.
