MYSTERY surrounds the sudden closure of one of Reading’s newest fast-food restaurants.

Chipstar, located on Broad Street, has been closed for (at least) the past two weeks.

The Dutch-style eatery only opened in December 2021 after taking over from Vape Superstore.

The franchise has stores across the world, including in Israel, Spain, Italy.

The Reading store is widely believed to be the first of its kind in the UK.

But fries fans have been unable to source tasty chips from this particular diner after the store shut down.

It is listed as ‘temporarily closed on Google.’

The Reading Chronicle has attempted to contact the store via email and telephone, but received no answer.

A planning agent for the original plans also failed to answer this newspaper’s call.

The man listed as director of the franchise's UK Ltd company on Companies House has also been contacted for comment.

An enquiry has also been sent to Reading Borough Council.
