Reading Academy defender Nelson Abbey suffered a head injury in a friendly against a Luton Town Development side, causing the game to be abandoned early.

Abbey, along with the likes of Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, Louie Holzman and Claudio Osorio, lost 2-0 as Admrial Muskwe bagged a brace.

18-year-old Abbey, who has played twice for the first team and recently signed a new deal, was taken to the hospital but has since been discharged.

Taking the social media to thank supporters for their concerns, the teenager said: "Thankful to the physios & all the medical team that were quick on to the scene. I’m home now resting and recovering. I’ll be back very soon. Thank you for all the messages"

The former England Under-17 international played seven times for the Under-23s last season as they came bottom of PL2, making the bench for the final day of the Championship season against Luton Town.

He was a key member of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup winning side, travelling directly from Kenilworth Road on the final day to make a cameo in Slough the same afternoon.

We all wish him well in his recovery.
