THE manager of an East Reading pub said it is "gutting" the business can no longer operate at its current location.

The Weather Station, on Eldon Terrace, made the statement to its customers on Facebook today (August 2) explaining it was due to increased rent.

General manager Kane said to the Reading Chronicle it's "gutting" making the announcement.

He said: "Myself and the team have worked to build a fun craft beer bar and foster the Reading DIY punk scene and out in some amazing gig nights breathing life into a tired old pub.

"For this to happen after surviving pandemics and government restrictions feels like a real kick in the teeth."

Kane added this pub isn't the first to close because of rising rent and it won't be the last.

He said: "There’s no bad feelings between myself and the property owner because at the end of the day they need to be making money too."

The Weather Station's last day of service will be on September 3.

The Weather Station posted on Facebook: "We will have a massive party and see the pub off in true Weather Station fashion.

"We want to thank everyone that has come into The Weather Station and have supported us for the past three years.

"It's been a pleasure and privilege to meet so many wonderful people, to have so many awesome bands play and most importantly having the joy of serving some cracking beer."

The pub ended the statement with: "This is not the end, we will return!"
