The team behind an exciting street food venue in Reading have revealed ambitious plans for events and extended opening hours.

Glen Dining, the founder of Blue Collar Street Food, has applied to keep the party at Blue Collar Corner going until 00.30am.

The team that runs the food market say longer hours all week would allow them to host an exciting programme of events, with hopes to re-tailor the market for winter.

A spokesman for Blue Collar Street Food said: “Blue Collar Corner opened in mid March and since then it’s been demonstrably successful.

“It’s one of the most popular venues in Reading and the first new large independent venue that’s opened for quite some time.

“What we’ve found is the site sits in a vibrant part of the night time economy.

“A lot of customers want to stay longer and enjoy the atmosphere later into the evening, we want to cater to that demand from our customers.

“We’re also looking to host events. The World Cup is coming up, so we’d like people to be able to watch that, but also we want to hold bottomless brunches, drag bingo and more, so there will be a lot more interesting stuff happening at the venue.”

In full, Mr Dining has applied to sell food from 11am until 00.30am Monday to Sunday, with drinks sales going until midnight (12am) each night.

The application is for a variation to the current licence and has been submitted to Reading Borough Council.

Currently Blue Collar Corner is open from 11am to 11pm Thursday to Saturday and 11am to 8pm on Sundays.

There is also a plan to ‘re-launch’ Blue Collar Corner so it’s a suitable place to go when the weather is colder as well.

The spokesman explained: “We have appointed promotions manager Pete Wheeler, so we’re going to do a lot more events which build on the general atmosphere.

“The venue will also be relaunched for winter with a winter plan, so that customers can enjoy the area right through the year.”
