Aerial photos show the devastation left by a fire which ripped through several Reading homes last night.

The blaze, which began at 11.47pm yesterday, appears to have burnt away the roofs of five buildings, revealing charred support beams.

Ash has spilled out of a large hole in the front of one building onto the street.

Multiple ladders can be seen in place and fire engines scattered around the estate.

One displaced resident posted on Facebook:"Our estate has been evacuated due to a house fire that spread amongst our houses. A lot of us stand here in our nightwear and some have lost everything."

There are no serious injuries reported at present, but further evacuations are under way.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: "Any displaced residents should head to the Calcot Infant School, which is being set up as a triage centre.

"When residents arrive at the triage centre, please advise what property you are from, whether your vehicle remains on Red Cottage Drive, any medication required and any pets left at home address."

Residents in the local area have been urged to keep doors and windows closed while emergency services deal with the incident.
