Reading-founded brewery, Phantom, have created a limited edition set of Royals beers to whet supporters' apetite ahead of the new campaign.

Kicking off in less than a week, Paul Ince's side travel to Blackpool for the opening match on Saturday.

Phantom, based off Richfield Avenue, have crafted four beverages and they are contained in specially designed cans in the theme of Reading kits down the years.

Despite having sold out, there are expected to be giveaways over the coming week for remaining stock.

Speaking to the Reading Chronicle about the special brew, founder Dane White said: "We’ve been working behind the scenes with Elm Park Royals [fan group], and it took off again. We were trying to give the fans more of what they want but also try and keep it cool and not overdo it.

Reading Chronicle:

"We wanted to do one ahead of the new season as you never know with the first few results as fans interest could dip a bit.

"A no point do we sit there and think that these are going to sell in a certain amount of time but after the first lot we had light expectations that we thought the fans would go for it again. We knew there would be interest as they’re cool can designs but you never know if people have enough disposable income to buy extra beer so it’s always a nice surprise when you get through them in two hours."

This is not the first time the business has mixed the Royals and beer, selling out their ales for the end of season legends match inside two hours in May.

Despite the obvious success and demand for the product, White wants to keep it exclusive and reveals that they will wait for the next football-themed brew.

"We’re not going to be pumping out retro kits in the next few months just because we can," he stated. "We want to keep some exclusivity. There are more in the pipeline for the future, but we have more going on at the moment to focus on."
