Reading goalkeeper Luke Southwood has joined League One outfit Luke Southwood on loan for the 2022/23 campaign.

The 24-year-old played 25 league matches last season for the Royals, however featured just once under new boss Paul Ince and has not been involved in the last two pre-season fixtures.

In the transfer window, keepers Joe Lumley and Dean Bouzanis arrived, making the Academy graduate surplus to requirements.

At the club from the age of eight, Southwood's contract runs up at the end of the season, making it a strong possibility that he has played his last match for the club.

He endeared himself to supporters with impressive performances against Fulham and Cardiff City early in the season, but was a key member of the side that shipped an EFL-high of 87 goals as the Royals finished four points clear of relegation.

The Robins finished 15th in the third tier last season, the highest in the club's history.

However, it has been a summer of transition with club legend Michael Duff leaving Gloucestershire to join Barnsley.

Wade Elliott's side play Northampton Town at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium tomorrow, and Southwood is set to feature.
