Reading fans are to be impacted by the latest set of train strikes as they are due to take place on the opening weekend of the EFL season.

Train union Aslef has confirmed that strikes are due to take place on Saturday, July 30, the same day many Royals fans make the trip to Blackpool to mark the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign.

With less than a fortnight to go, up to eight companies are set to walk out; namely:

  • Arriva Rail London
  • Chiltern Railways
  • LNER
  • Greater Anglia
  • Southeastern
  • Hull Trains
  • West Midlands Trains

Currently CrossCountry and Northern Rail are the most frequent providers between Reading and Blackpool, however there are some services which require a stint on the striking West Midlands Trains.

The knock on effect from other providers being down could also impact the supporters set to make their way to Lancashire.

General Secretary of Aslef, Mick Whelan, told the BBC: "We don't want to inconvenience passengers - not least because our friends and families use public transport, too, and we believe in building trust in the railways in Britain - and we don't want to lose money by going on strike."

Other options for travel to Bloomfield Road incloude the Supporters Trust [STAR] coaches.

They are offering members a seat on the designated coaches for £35, departing both West Street and the SCL Stadium on the day of the match.
