A man has suffered a head injury after being thrown into the river having been robbed moments earlier.

The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning (July 6) when a group of men befriend the victim at St Mary’s Church in the town centre.

At about 2.30am, the group stole the victim’s phone, bankcard and cash before throwing him into the river at Berkeley Avenue.

The victim managed to climb out up the bank a short distance downstream and shouted to a member of the public to call police.

He suffered a head injury and was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital for further treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.

Two men from Reading, aged 48 and 39, as well as a 23-year-old from Winnersh, have all been arrested on suspicion of robbery.
