A huge police response which saw officers "fly up" towards Wibsey Park has been linked to an armed robbery.

One person – whose gender has not been revealed at this time – was stabbed during the ordeal.

Cllr Sabiya Khan (Labour, Wibsey) told the Telegraph & Argus: “It was an armed robbery. Someone has been stabbed.

“Our thoughts are with the victim and [we] sincerely hope they’re ok and they haven’t had a serious injury.

“The police are working, they’re following up on the incident and they want to reassure the community they’re doing everything possible.”

Asked whether it appears to be an isolated incident, Cllr Khan said: “It’s an isolated attack I would say as we do have anti-social behaviour and vandalism incidents reported which we work in partnership with the police to tackle. We haven’t had an incident of this nature.

“The police are doing their work. They’re following up on inquiries. They’re investigating thoroughly to get to the bottom of this.”

She added: “Our thoughts are with the victim. We hope the person is ok.”

Residents living in the area have expressed their fears about the incident, with one writing: “Bradford is getting worse”.

One resident, who was just streets away, said: “They all flew up past my house with sirens on when we got back from school.”

A mum described how her children had wanted to go to the park after school and that she was relieved she said no.

“It’s the entrance to the park taped off including the edge of the garage over the road,” another said.

“I don’t know [what] all the police were doing. Must have been 10 cars, dogs and an ambulance which then went.”

Another said: “Doesn’t look good.”

One Wibsey local said: “Oh not good. Saw them flying up High Street, thought ‘something bad somewhere’.”
