A local male MP has had some experience of what it’s like to have menopause during a recent event.

Whilst in attendance, Bracknell Forest MP James Sunderland was able to get a taste of how it feels to have some of the symptoms associated with it.

The menopause is when a woman stops having periods, it’s a natural part of ageing that typically occurs between 45 and 55 years old.

Mr Sunderland tried on a Theramex Global MenoVest which has been designed to simulate the feeling of hot flush, which some women experience.

The event was organised by Over the Bloody Moon – a group that offers advice to individuals and companies, as well as supporting people through perimenopause and menopause via classes, coaching and a self-care platform.

Other male MPs in attendance included Conservative Ian Duncan-Smith and Labour’s Neil Kinnock and Wes Streeting – who called the feeling “deeply unpleasant.”

Afterwards Mr Sunderand emphasised how important it is to learn more about the menopause and to provide “all the support necessary” for women going through it “both in the workplace and beyond.”

“I certainly feel more empathetic towards those who experience the intensity of hot flushes. Menopause is not just a female issue but a topic that everyone needs to understand better,” he added.
