A set of public toilets in Bracknell is to get a much-needed revamp following the receipt of government funding.

Plans to refurbish the Birch Hill Shopping Centre toilets, which are operated by Bracknell Town Council, have now been given the thumbs up by town councillors.

Work is to begin in the summer, with completion set for early autumn, after the council obtained £40,000 from the government to enable the project to go ahead.

The make-over will include bringing the toilets up to Changing Places standard – which are designed to be completely accessible and provide sufficient space and equipment for people who are not able to use the toilet independently.

Leader of Bracknell Town Council, Councillor Chris Turrell, said: “The toilets are used by visitors to the park at South Hill Park. Changing Places is important for disabled users, as this gives them the necessary changing facilities for a worry-free day out.

“Nationally, not many public toilets are Changing Places standard. I am really pleased we will be able to offer this improvement to park visitors and local residents.”
