Former Reading star John Swift has outlined his season goals with new club West Brom after leaving Berkshire last month.

Joining the Baggies on a free transfer in May, the midfield dynamo was the first signing at the Hawthorns, with Millwall star Jed Wallace following last week.

The 26-year-old had been with the Royals since 2016 and had his best season for the club last time out with 11 goals and 13 assists.

Now with Steve Bruce in the West Midlands, the former Chelsea youth product is aiming higher than a second successive relegation scrap.

Speaking to the West Brom media, he said:"We want to be a lot higher and push for the automatics but play-offs is the least we want and hopefully we can get a good start, especially at home. We want to make our stadium a place where teams will be frightened to go and hopefully, we can start off well. It’s a tough game to start but there’s going to be tough games the whole season so I’m really excited and I know everyone else is too."

Revealing in the interview that he attended their final match of the season, a 4-0 win over relegated Barnsley, Swift had lots of time to consider his future.

With promotion the ambition, the Portsmouth-born goal threat thinks he's made the right move.

"I’m really happy," he started. "It’s been a long time coming. After I signed, I got away, got my head down and started working. It’s good to be in, it’s not good to be back running but it’s good to be meeting everyone, the staff and the lads."

He summed up: "There was talk about me coming at the end of the season as I knew my contract was coming up at Reading, so I’ve had a lot of chats and it’s good to be in now."
