With the transfer window in full swing and the new Championship season edging ever nearer, we look at three stars to watch for from the sides promoted from League One.

Reading Chronicle:

Wigan Athletic; James McClean

A well-known figure in British football, McClean spent last season outside the top two divisions of English football for the first time since arriving from Ireland in 2011.

Despite being 33, he had his most productive season as he netted 10 times and gained seven assists as the Latics returned to the Championship.

A divisive figure for some, the winger provides invaluable experience to a relatively inexperienced Championship team and manager.

Reading Chronicle:

Dan Barlaser; Rotherham United

Another who enjoyed a career-best campaign last time out, 25-year-old Barlaser 19 goal contributions as the Millers make another immediate return to the second tier.

After spending the 2020/21 campaign on loan at the New York Stadium, his first permanent move away from Newcastle United has continued to impress as he now looks to help keep Paul Warne's side in the Championship.

Losing key men at either side of the pitch, Michael Smith and Michael Ihikwe, to Sheffield Wednesday will prove an early blow but there is still more than a month until leageu action gets underway.

Reading Chronicle:

Ross Stewart

Hitting 26 goals for the Black Cats last season, Stewart is a wanted man.

At time of writing European giants Rangers want the Scotaldn international but reports suggest that the hierarchy at the Stadium of Light are willing to offer an "improved" contract to keep him in the North-East.

After a four year exile out of the top two divisions, Sunderland beat Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley to secure a return.

Only Will Keane at Wigan scored more in the league than Stewart, with the 25-year-old only having played 32 matches at second tier level- for St Mirren and Ross County.
