New Reading goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis is determined to hit the ground running after joining from League Two Sutton United.

The 31-year-old was instrumental in the Yellows' rise from the National League to the Football League for the first time in their history, finishing narrowly outside the play-off places and reaching Wembley Stadium in the Papa John's Trophy final.

A Cup winner in his native Australia, the former Liverpool Academy graduate is confident that he can bring added competition to an already busy goalkeeping line-up.

Speaking to the club media, he said: "It’s a massive football club, I’m delighted to be here and can’t wait to get going. The manager watched me and kept tabs on me last year.

"As a footballer everyone wants to play. You want to push, and you want to push each other- that’s the way the competition is, everyone gets better, and you work together and that’s what the goalkeeper union is about. I’ve come here and I think I can do well, one thing I will do is give it my all and make sure that when the time comes, I give it my all."

There's only one spot as a goalkeeper - but if you have a healthy union and push each other on, that's what it's about. You want the best for each other and the best for the team."

A club well-versed to a goalkeeper from 'Down Under', Adam Federici famously spent more than a decade in Berkshire- a shot stopper who Bouzanis looks up to.

"I’ve crossed paths with Adam," he started. "He’s had an unbelievable career, he did well here and even for the national team when he’s played, he’s done well, so he’s someone that Aussie goalies look up to."
