New Reading goalkeeper Joe Lumley believes the club should not set expectations too low ahead of the new season, with 'anything possible.'

Arriving earlier in the month on loan from Middlesbrough, the former QPR shot stopper is Paul Ince's only summer signing so far.

Playing almost 40 matches in the Championship last season, with more than 10 clean sheets, he brings some experience to a goalkeeper line up consisting of three Academy graduates.

Speaking to the media for the first time since his arrival, he is already enjoying his time at Bearwood as preparations crank up toward friendlies starting next week.

"It’s good," he started. "Everyone knows what’s going on in the background but the first few days the boys are working as hard as they can to get fit. There’s a couple who are training who have not signed and they’re fighting to get contracts, but all the lads and staff have been great. Once everyone’s signed, I feel we’ll have a great team and there’s a good spirit and get going.

"Anything is possible. The lads are great, and they’re fit so why not go for promotion. I feel every team is doing that so there’s every chance. We still haven’t got a massive squad, but the lads will fit in straight away, as I have, so anything’s possible."

Training under new keeper coach Tony Warner, and alongside fellow stars such as Luke Southwood and Jokull Andresson, Lumley feels that there is high quality in the defensive department.

"I didn’t know about Jokull but he’s a very good goalie, big goalie. You can tell he’s going to do well in the game. Luke, I played against twice last season and he’s a top goalie. In training you see things you don’t always in games, and I thought he was a great goalie, now I think he’s a top goalie. We’re all young and we all push each other."
