Former Reading midfielder Andy Rinomhota spoke for the first time as a Cardiff City star after his move to Wales last week.

Playing more than 150 times in six years with the first team, including winning Player of the Season in 2019, the Leeds-born star joins midfield partners John Swift and Josh Laurent in turning down contract to remain in Berkshire.

The Academy graduate endured a tough season, both collectively and personally, last time out as he played just 20 league matches in an injury-distrupted campaign.

"Last season was one I’d like to forget really," he exclaimed. "I haven’t had other seasons like that where I’ve missed a lot of games so that was tough but over the off season, I’ve got everything right and hopefully I can kick off this season and play as many games as possible."

With the fixtures released last week, the 'super computer' has thrown up an RG2 homecoming in just the second game week for the combative star, something he is looking forward to.

"I saw that straight away- Reading the first one back- so will see what its like going back there. I’ve spent most of my career there I’ve got a lot of love for the club and a lot of respect for them so it’ll be good to go back and see some familiar faces. Cardiff are my team now so I will have to play to my best and do what I can do."

Rinomhota becomes Steve Morison's 10th signing in a busy summer window, including a failed attempt to bring Wales superstar Gareth Bale to his hometown club ahead of a first World Cup since 1958.
