1. Former Reading FC favourite fails Brugge medical, reports suggest

Reading Chronicle:

Former fan favourite Andy Carroll has failed his medical at Champions League outfit Club Brugge, according to a national newspaper.

Geordie Carroll played eight times for the Royals last season, scoring twice, before departing to join West Brom.

Released by Steve Bruce over the summer, the 33-year-old was once again a free agent and reports were circling linking the former England international with a move to the continent.

2. Rail strike: Elizabeth line services affected this week

CUSTOMERS travelling between Reading and Paddington are likely to be disrupted by the upcoming strike action.

Transport for London (TfL) is encouraging people not to trarvel on Tuesday, June 21 until mid-morning on Wednesday, June 22, unless “absolutely necessary”.

Planned industrial action being taken by the RMT and Unite unions is set to take place on June 21, June 23 and June 25.

3. Reading FC loanee 'on brink' of return to British football

Former Reading midfielder Alfa Semedo has been linked with a Championship return after reports emerged that Bristol City and Stoke City have registered their interest.

Guinea-Bissau international played 35 times and scored twice as Veljko Paunovic's Royals reached the brink of the play-offs.

Previously of Benfica, he joined Vitoria Guimaraes in 2021 but it is said that they are willing to let him go for just over £1m.

4. Olly Stephens: Why Reading murderer's appeal was dismissed

THE 15-YEAR-OLD boy who murdered Olly Stephens has seen his appeal to overturn his conviction thrown out.

Judges at one of the UK’s top courts heard how it was the ‘ultimate unfairness’ that the jury in the trial of the 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was not shown evidence about his Asperger’s syndrome diagnosis.

But the bench at the Court of Appeal emphatically dismissed the application as they deemed the boy’s condition had ‘no relevance’ to the circumstances of the incident.

5. Bridget Rooney: Dunstable mother overdosed at Woodley family home

A YOUNG mother died from an overdose after learning her baby was set to be adopted.

A coroner ruled that Bridget Rooney, from Dunstable in Bedfordshire, committed suicide while staying at her family home in Woodley in November 2021.

Reading Chronicle:

The 21-year-old took her own life after social services informed her that her two-year-old son would be adopted in January 2022, a court heard.
