Former Reading midfielder Andy Rinomhota has confirmed his exit from Berkshire.

The 25-year-old had been offered a new contract to remain at the SCL Stadium but has opted against it with strong rumours linking him to Championship rivals Cardiff City.

Playing more than 150 appearances since breaking through the Academy, the Leeds-born star won Player of the Season in 2018/19 as Jose Gomes lead the club away from relegation.

A player who wore his heart on his sleeve, he departed the club saying: "It's never easy saying goodbye, especially to a club which has been so close to my heart for the last seven years. I came here as a boy and leave as a man and have loved every minute of it."

This comes just days after fellow midfield partner Josh Laurent declined a contract to move to Stoke City, with John Swift having departed last month.

It is understood that he had been training at Bearwood since Wednesday as his contract is not officially up untul July 1.

The Bluebirds are the first visitors to RG2 in the 2022/23 campaign.
