Reading look set to miss out on rumoured target Charlie Austin as reports suggest he is undergoing a medical with Brisbane Roar.

The 32-year-old is a free agent after leaving Queens Park Rangers, and outlets had linked the Hungerford-born goalscorer with a return to Reading- the club that released him for being too small as a teenager.

Cardiff City and Swansea City were amongst a host of Championship sides rumoured to be interested in the former Southampton and Burnley star, but FootyInsiders report that he is undergoing a medical with the Australian A-League outfit.

This ties in with a cryptic tweet put out by striker who was called up for England but never featured.

Five days ago he tweeted: "Sometimes you’ve got to roll the dice many times through out my career so far I have rolled it, so why not once more!"

This would leave the Royals with just two recognised first team strikers in Lucas Joao and George Puscas, although the futures of both the Angolan and Romanian international are still uncertain.

He would not be the first Brit to be playing for the ROar, with Scottish defender Tom Aldred and Irish winger Jay O Shea currently playing for the three time domestic title winners- although they finished second from bottom last season.
