Reading could be getting a new Italian takeaway eatery according to fresh plans.

Coco Di Mama is set to occupy the old Ecco shoe store in Broad Street and transform it into an Italian takeaway diner.

The chain is known for serving up pasta dishes, sandwiches, lasagnas soups and sweat treats, and is billed as “the UK’s leading quick-service Italian”, according to its owners the Azzuri Group, which also operates the Zizzi and Ask Italian restaurant chains.

Diners in Reading have been able to get Coco Di Mama food delivered to their homes using the Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat apps.

That’s because Coco Di Mama food is being cooked for delivery at the Zizzi restaurant on The Oracle Riverside.

The opening of Coco Di Mama would allow diners to eat in store for the first time.

However, no designs for its interior have appeared yet, so it is unclear how many people the restaurant will be able to host.

You can view designs for Coco Di Mama typing application reference 220631 into Reading Borough Council’s planning portal.

The east end of Broad Street has seen a transition away from shopping towards eateries recently.

The old Virgin Media store made way for Tortilla on October 31, 2020, and the former Vape Superstore was transformed into Chipstar, which opened earlier this year.
