THE closure of a major road through Reading will be closed for five days from today (June 13).

Reading Bridge on George Street will be shut for broadband maintenance works until Friday, June 17.

This will affect drivers trying to get over the bridge from the Vastern Road roundabout in both directions.

CityFibre will begin the roadworks at 9.30am this morning and is expected to last until 4pm on the Friday.

A diversion route is in place via Caversham Bridge to 'help ease traffic'.

Stacey King, area manager at CityFibre, said the company is investing £58m into Reading to tranform its digital infrastructure and bring next generation full fibre connectivity to almost ever home and business in the town.

She said: "This is a major undertaking, which is why we are working closely with our build partner, local authorities and the council’s highways team to ensure all works are delivered as effectively and efficiently as possible."

CityFibe also said it is doing 'everything possible' to manage disruption.

Ms King added: "Next week’s works are taking place during off-peak hours with a diversion route in place via Caversham Bridge, which will help to ease traffic.

"We’d like to thank residents and commuters for their patience during any recent delays they may have encountered. We are extremely grateful for the support we’ve received from the wider community to date while we deliver this major investment programme.”
