Reading Buses has revealed it is starting a new shuttle bus service for NHS staff to get to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The bus company recently axed a park and ride service which ran between Thames Valley Park and Reading town centre, bus route 400.

However, the company will now repurpose the buses and use them for a park and ride shuttle bus taking NHS staff from Thames Valley Park in Earley and Mereoak in Three Mile Cross to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

A spokesperson for Reading Buses explained: “We have been using three vehicles and six drivers that normally run the Winnersh Triangle park&ride 500 service to run the temporary Thames Valley park&ride 400 service whilst Wokingham Borough Council funded the service during Winnersh Triangle closure.

“The vehicles and drivers were intended return to Winnersh Triangle when the carpark reopens in 2023, but we have plenty of other work for them to undertake in the meantime including a new shuttle service for NHS staff from Thames Valley park&ride and Mereoak park&ride starting the following Monday.”

The new park and ride service will begin on Monday, June 20.

The route, H3, runs from 6.45am to 7.15pm. Times can be found on the Bus Times.org website.
