MAKE off without making payment.

Perhaps one of the most-clear cut offences out there -- it is what it says on the tin.

And there are a number of people who have been sentenced at Thames Valley courts after they received their goods and failed to pay for them.

Here are their names and what they stole.

Dinner bill

Anne Mahon, 38, Chloe Maughan, 18, both of The Beeches, Woodley, Reading, and a teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, made off without paying at Victors Restaurant at the Westgate shopping centre in Oxford on August 5, 2021.

The trio racked up a food and drink bill of £286.26 but left the restaurant before paying for their dinner.

Appearing at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 17, Anne Mahon was fined £120 and made to pay compensation of £71.50.

She was also made to pay a £34 victim surcharge.

The teenage boy walked from court with a 12-month conditional discharge and an order to pay just £71.50 in compensation.

Chloe Mahon was given the same compensation order for the lavish dinner, but was fined £200 and made to pay an extra £50 in compensation after committing racially aggravated harassment on Oxford High Street on August 5, 2021.

Fuel bill

Darren Ironside, of Birchett Road, Farnborough was handed a community order after he drove off without paying for £96.01 of fuel at a petrol station in Warfield, Bracknell Forest, in May 2020.

Appearing at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on December 17, 2021, the 37-year-old was told to pay compensation of £609.48, according to a court file.

Another fuel bill

Christopher Buckland, of Micklefield Road, High Wycombe, also stole fuel after filling up in his home town on September 18, 2020.

The 39-year-old racked up £35.01 of petrol before scampering away.

He did it again on September 22, 2020, when he filled up £30 of fuel in Stokenchurch and failed to pay for it.
Buckland was committed to prison for six months after he was also convicted of assault by beating.

He appeared at Wycome Magistrates’ Court on November 30, 2021.

Food and drinks bill

Leigh Clarke, of Well Lane, Witney, failed to pay £69.05 for food and drinks in Carterton, Oxfordshire on June 13, 2021.

He admitted to making off without making payment at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on April 29, 2022.

The 30-year-old was due to be sentenced this month.
