A WIDOWER is taking on an epic cycling challenge in memory of his wife who died following a battle with cancer.

Ted Allaway, 75 is aiming to cycle 5k around Reading as part of the MCMC Annual Bike Ride from Thames Valley Park.

This is to raise vital funds for My Cancer My Choices following the loss of his wife Margaret, who died last December after 52 years together.

Mr Allaway will be getting on the bike on June 12, for the first time in over 50 years.

The ride is raising money for My Cancer My Choices who provide complementary therapies for people with cancer throughout Berkshire. Ted explained why he has chosen to support My Cancer My Choices:

He said: “I want to raise money for a small, local charity that is close to home and helps people with cancer”

The charity was founded in 2015, where they offer one-to-one appointments of acupuncture, reflexology, art therapy and massage, and runs group courses in Mindfulness and Yoga.

Since its launch, the charity has helped 1500 people by giving more than 5,500 treatments and running 55 courses to help with the symptoms and side effects of cancer and its treatment.

This is the second bike ride the Rotary Club of Reading Matins has organised supporting this local Berkshire-based charity.
