A new ‘green’ plan has been adopted by the town council as residents want ‘the environment to be at the heart of life.’
Earley Town Council declared a climate emergency in March 2021 and subsequently formed a working group to start addressing issues relating to global warming.
Part of the strategy was to have a Green Infrastructure Action Plan and, at its meeting on May 11, it was voted in.

The council says the plan will help with “developing, protecting and preserving Earley’s many biodiverse areas” – such as the Maiden Erlegh local nature reserve.
Councillors believe this plan to be important after a recent State of Nature report suggested that “there has been a 13% decline in the average abundance of wildlife in the UK since the 1970s.”
The plan aims to set out a sustainable strategy so Earley’s green infrastructure can “become bigger, better and more joined together.”
