Most recently coaching at Scottish giants Rangers, the right-back departed Ibrox earlier in the season after five years with the Europa League finalists.

Speaking to BBC Radio Berkshire during Saturday’s 150th anniversary legends match at the SCL Stadium, Murty said: “It makes you wish as though you’d done it a little bit sooner, so you could’ve come back and shown your appreciation. That’s the main thing that everyone has said, we all felt a really good connection to the club and the fans, and that we’d like to do more if we could.

"It’s been a challenging time and maybe people have had some disillusionment about it overall but the experience that we’ve all had has been a very positive one, so we’ve loved it. We want to give that positivity back to the fans and get a good feeling around the place. If we can help them then we’ll be glad to as we’ve had some very special times here.”
