Former Reading FC winger, Bobby Convey, described the club as "a community" and a "special club" when returning for the legends match last weekend.

Playing more than 45 minutes on his return to RG2, the 38-year-old had spent five seasons with the club and played more than 100 matches- becoming the first Reading player to appear at a World Cup finals in the process.

The American travelled for over 15 hours to attend the reunion, with more than 10,000 supporters in attendance at the SCL Stadium on Saturday to watch a Brian McDermott side overcome a Steve Coppell side 8-5.

Speaking to the club media ahead of the event, he said: "This club was special for all of us. It was a community, we were all in it together. We really all enjoyed ourselves.

“The group of guys, the team that we had, it was exceptional. We were all actually friends, on and off the field."

The wide-man , who went on to play six more seasons in the MLS after departing Berkshire, reflected on the incredible 2005/06 season.

"It’s great to remember what we used to do here, and how my career went," he started.

“This club has always been a family-friendly environment. Fans, players and staff… everyone was in it together. We took that journey together that year and it was great for everyone.”
